However, measuring the thermodynamics properties experimentally is time-consuming and costly. Knowing the thermodynamics properties of hydrocarbons is vital when it comes to analyzing the related chemical reaction outcomes and understanding the reaction process, especially in terms of petrochemical industrial applications, combustions, and catalytic reactions. The lowest emissions were found to be obtained by systems using HFO blends, that showed also the lowest total life cycle cost. Twolocations in the Americas, with mild and hot ambient temperature, were considered in the calculation. We compared traditional HFC systems, low GWP (<1500) and very-low GWP (<150) HFO systems, transcritical CO2 systems, and propane systems. The scope of this work is to confront the environmental impact, performance, and total life cycle cost of several refrigeration systems that are viable alternatives for small and large stores. The rest of the world is going to follow with the Kigali Amendment, and consequently, refrigerants with high Global Warming Potential or GWP (>2500) will be replaced with low GWP (<1500) or very-low (<150) refrigerants such as hydrofluoroolefins (HFOs) and CO2, among others. The European F-Gas Regulation set the path to reduce the greenhouse gases emission of commercial refrigeration systems.
